David O. Lemponen, age 83, St. Rt. 45, Austinburg, died Friday afternoon at the University Hospitals in Cleveland from injuries received Thursday while assisting emergency personnel with an auto accident.

He was born December 6, 1933 in Austinburg, the son of Rufus & Marian (Owen) Lemponen and has been a lifelong Austinburg resident.  David was a 1953 Austinburg High School graduate.  He married Linda L. Schlecht on August 14, 1965 in Geneva.  He worked several years at Rockwell International and retired from Reliance Electric in 1999 upon their closing after many years of service.

David was a 60 year member of the Austinburg Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as chief for 18 years.  He was a member of the Ashtabula Co. Fire Chief’s Assoc., the Masonic Lodge, Grotto and the Elks Lodge.  He enjoyed golf, bowling, watching and playing baseball and most of all his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Linda, a daughter, Lisa A. (Clarence “Skip”) Lemponen-Plotz of Jefferson & Eric J. (Heather) Lemponen of Grove City, two granddaughters, Katarina Plotz & Morgan Lemponen and two brothers, Donald (Shirley) Lemponen of Ashtabula & Phillip (Lois) Lemponen of Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Norma Keller and a brother, James Lemponen.

Memorial services will be held Sunday June 25, 2017 at 1:00 P. M. at the Harpersfield Community Center, 5604 Cork-Cold Springs Rd., Harpersfield Twp. with the Rev.
