Guy Homer Butts, JR, age 73 of Ashtabula passed away Friday (Feb. 16th) after a long hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born September 17, 1944 in Tampa, FL the son of Guy and Anna (Enos) Butts, SR.
Guy met his future wife, Mary DePriest, while working together for a traveling magazine sales company, where they traveled the U.S. together selling magazines door-to-door. They married November 28, 1972. Their children, Todd and Kim, were born in 1975 and 1978. Guy and Mary were married for 45 years.
Guy served in the United States Army from 1965 – 1967, serving in the Vietnam War the majority of that time. He was a long-time employee at both RMI and Zercho until he retired in 2013. After retirement, he enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, going out to eat and shopping with his wife, and watching TV. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters.
Guy was a member of the Gateway Church of Ashtabula, which he always enjoyed attending.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Butts; a son Todd (Kerri) Butts of Jefferson; a daughter, Kim (Ryan) Hutchins of Ashtabula; two granddaughters, Kyli and Kaci Butts and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doug Butts; two sisters, Linda Lehr and Gael Suarez.
A memorial service will be Wednesday (Feb. 21st) at 2:00 PM at the Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road Ashtabula with Rev. Kenneth Roberts officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church.
