Jeffrey Scott Grier

Jeffrey Scott Grier, age 48, of Jefferson Ohio, was taken from us unexpectedly on Thursday, February 15, 2018, shortly after being admitted to the Cleveland Trauma Center.

Jeff was born November 1, 1969 in Coshocton, Ohio.  The son of Kenneth and Patricia Morrison Grier, and a 1988 Coshocton High School graduate. He attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Visual Communications, received his Bachelor of Education degree from Christopher Newport University in Virginia, and in 2014 received his Master’s Degree from the Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. He shared his passion for art with his students at Jefferson Local School from 1999-2001 and Madison Schools from 2011-present.

His most famous piece of art work is titled, "I'll Take It from Here". It was created after 9/11 to raise money for the Red Cross to benefit victims’ families. The original hangs in the Pentagon in Washington DC, and a print in the 9/11 Museum in New York City.

Jeff was a passionate but private person. He cared deeply about others and made a lasting impact in history with his artwork, family, friends, students, and colleagues. He also loved music and his favorite band, RUSH. One of his greatest characteristics was his contagious sense of humor, and he will be remembered by his family and friends for his laugh provoking remarks and practical jokes.

Jeff married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Husted on December 30th, 1994, and recently celebrated 23 years.

Jeff is survived by his wife Liz and their two loving children, Virginia K. Grier, 16 and Edward C. Grier, 13. Also survived by parents Kenneth and Patricia Grier and his mother and father-in-law, Jon and Suellen Ehrich Husted. Jeff left behind 9 brothers and sisters, Lynn (Bill) Mayberry, Tom (Sandy) Grier, Karen Hooper, Mark (Kim) Grier, Marianne (Glenn) Yoder, Kevin Grier, Amy (Daryl) Berry, Elaine Haynes, and Brian (Serenna) Grier, and sister-in-law Katie (Gary) Husted Sorrell.

Jeff is also survived by many, many, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The celebration to honor Jeff’s life will be held on Friday, February 23rd from 3pm-5pm at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 49 W. Jefferson St. Jefferson, Ohio.  Fr. John Ettinger of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church will start prayers at 4:45 P.
