Richard A. Pruden

Richard A. Pruden, 89 of Geneva died Sunday (Jan.15th) at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Chardon. He was born April 14, 1927 in Geneva the son of Lyle R. and Lyndall L. (Lloyd) Pruden.

He was a veteran of the US Army during World War II serving  in the European Theater of Operations and was scheduled to be sent to Japan until the atomic bomb was dropped and he remained in Germany.

He graduated from Platt R. Spencer High School in 1945 ,received his Bachelor’s degree in 1950 from The Ohio State and  received his Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1974 and he taught for 28 years at the Ashtabula County JVS retiring in 1997 where he was an advisor for the Future Farmers of America. He was also a partner in the family business the Pruden Hatchery. He managed Pruden Chicks Amateur baseball and basketball teams with his father and brother for fifteen years. He was a Geneva City School Board Member and Ashtabula Co. Joint Vocational Board Member from the 1960's until he started teaching at ACJVS in the 1970's. He was in on the planning of the Geneva Little League; he also managed the Geneva Little League Giants for 18 years.

He is a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Geneva; the Rotary Club of Jefferson for 28 years; the Geneva Chamber of Commerce where he was named citizen of the year in 2003. He was also a member of Geneva VFW Post 6846; the Geneva American Legion.  He was elected to the Geneva Township Trustees for 28 years he was also a member of the Sons of the Revolution the Samuel Huntington Chapter. He and his wife were very active in the Platt R. Spencer Historical Society

Surviving him are his wife Barbara (Kropf) Pruden whom he married August 25, 1956; three children, Lori Ann (Luis) Martinez of Ashtabula, Richard John  (Patti) Pruden of Geneva and Timothy Lyle (Liz) Pruden of Ft. Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Guanina (Omar), Michael, Jennifer, Catherine and David; a great granddaughter, Valentina, and a brother, Donald L. Pruden, his brothers-in-law, John (Harriet) Kropf and Ed (Eleanor) Kropf who were more like brothers than in laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Louise, a granddaughter, Rebecca..

Funeral service will be Saturday (Jan 21st) at 11:00 AM at the Christ Episcopal Church, 66 South Eagle St. Geneva with Rev. Dr. Thomas Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Geneva VFW Post #6846 conducting military rites.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
