William F Sickler

May 27, 1921 ~ November 21, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old


 

William F. Sickler, 95, of Ashtabula, went to be with the Lord on Mon., Nov. 21, while in Hospice care at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Born in Ashley, PA, on May 27, 1921, he was the son of William M. and Ethel (Bartholomew) Sickler.

Bill was employed for many years as a radio announcer in eastern Pennsylvania, Ashtabula, and New Jersey stations.  He retired from North American Rockwell Brake Plant in Ashtabula. His hobbies included playing, recording, singing, and listening to music of several different genres, but especially “easy listening.”

A World War II veteran, he served in the European Theater in England, Italy and Africa.

Bill and the former Edith A. Pulkkinen were married on Jan. 19, 1963, in Long Branch, NJ, celebrating 53 years of marriage this year.

A member of First Baptist Church of Kingsville, he was in charge of the church’s sound system for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Edith, of Ashtabula, two daughters, Ann Laura Jeffries, and Dr. Amy (David) Clunn, both of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren, Dr. Maureen (Dr. Niklaus) Mahrt, Cincinnati; Megan (Lt. Cmdr, US Navy Kevin) Jordan, San Diego, CA; Amanda (Colin Wilson) Sickler, Columbus; Jordan, Zachary and Mason Clunn, Ocala, FL; five great-grandchildren, Maya and Emma Mahrt, Christopher and Leah Jordan, and Madelyn Wilson; brother-in-law, Larry Shreve, Wilkes-Barre, PA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; son, William M., and two sisters, Marion Dunbar and Shirley Shreve.

Funeral services will be Wednesday (Nov. 23rd) at 11:00 AM at The First Baptist Church, 6003 State Route 193, Kingsville, Ohio with Rev. David Hines officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

 Calling hours will be Tuesday (Nov. 22nd) from 5-7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Kingsville, Ohio.
