Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors have a new staff member, Bella the Therapy Dog.
Funeral homes give family members and friends a place to say their final good bye to their loved ones.
Most often, this is a difficult sad time for everyone. Therapy Dogs have proven to be a positive asset at this time, bringing unconditional love and help to lighten a mournful atmosphere while bringing peace to individuals at an upsetting time.
Therapy Dogs have the ability to assist people through the grieving process, and Bella is no exception. Her steady and unwavering disposition helps give consolation to family members while the effects of stroking her coat has proven incredibly comforting.
Bella comes to Ashtabula by way of Milwaukee, Wi, where she received her training. She was raised by David Entwistle, the brother of Joan Billman. When David passed away last summer, it just seemed right to bring Bella here to work in the Funeral Home. Her training includes socialization and other behavioral skills, but she intuitively seems to know who is hurting the most, and seeks them out. Bella is a Goldendoodle, and handlers say they naturally know how to provide comfort.
