Arthur Druschel Obituary

Arthur A. “Art” Druschel, age 71, longtime Ashtabula resident and living in Youngstown the past four years, died Monday afternoon at his residence.

He was born March 3, 1948 in Elwood City, PA, the son of the late Clarence E. & Steveanna M. (MacDonald) Druschel.  Art received both his bachelor and master’s degree from Edinboro University.  There, he met Susan M. “Sue” Gauscheman, whom he married on August 22, 1970 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Mr. Druschel was an elementary teacher in the Buckeye Local School System for 35 years, retiring in 2005.  He taught at both Kingsville and North Kingsville Elementary Schools, where students remember both his fair discipline and his funny jokes. He was a member and served as treasurer of the Buckeye Education Association for many years, the Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish-St. Joseph Church while living in Ashtabula and now a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown.  He was treasurer and member of the Downstairs Investment Club for many years. Art’s enjoyments included gardening, golfing, corny jokes, ice cream, traveling and spending time with family. Following retirement, he and Sue wintered in Florida for several years.

Art was known for being a great friend, always willing to lend a helping hand with a charming smile.

He is remembered with love by his wife Sue; his son, Dr Gregory Druschel, his wife Teresa and their son Benjamin of Carmel, IN; his daughter Kate Griffin, her husband Michael, and their daughters Emma and Clare of Bethesda, MD; a brother Larry Druschel of Harmony, PA; two special sisters-in-laws,  Nancy Gauscheman and Janet Ott; twelve nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, fellow teachers, and hundreds of schoolchildren.

The funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at OLP-St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with Fr. Thomas Bishop officiating.  Entombment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Penn Hills, PA.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W.
