Carolyn P. Tallbacka, 95 of Ashtabula died Wednesday (Sept. 4th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born October 5, 1923 in Albion, Pennsylvania the daughter of Cecil and Thora (Weigel) Spaulding.
She was a graduate of Harbor High School in 1941. Carolyn proudly served as a local Air Raid Warden during World War II.
She was an active member and served as a Deacon of the Second Congregational United Church of Christ in Ashtabula.
Carolyn enjoyed sewing, embroidery, reading and travel. She was a long time participant in the Ashtabula Recreation golf league. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader, was a member of the Women of the Elks and was active in the Harbor Athletic Boosters for many years. She and Walt enjoyed attending her family’s numerous sporting events.
Surviving her is her daughter, Diane (Frank) Maenpa of Ashtabula; her daughter-in-law, Tina Tallbacka of Mayfield Hts.; three grandchildren, Timothy (Emily) Tallbacka of Kingsville, Tonya (Rob) Thomas of Highland Hts. and Dr. Ryan (Lesa) Maenpa of Centerville, Ohio; six great grandchildren, Hannah and Trenton Tallbacka, Madelyn and Jackson Eippert, Lincoln Thomas and Grady Maenpa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Walt, in 2011 and her son, David in 2009.
Funeral service will be Saturday (Sep. 14th) at 11:00 am at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling hour will be Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral.
