Danica Agnes ((Nestic), (Kover)) Garrity

Danica A. “Donnie” (Nestic) (Kover) Garrity, age 97, longtime North Collinwood resident, died Tuesday in Mentor.

She was born May 14, 1924 in Cleveland, the daughter of Nikola & Anna (Malner) Nestic.  Danica was a 1942 graduate of Collinwood High School.  Following graduation, she attended secretarial school at Dyke College.

Donnie was employed by the Eaton Corp. in the office Axle & Stamping Division for many years. She also worked at K-Mart in Euclid for many years.  After retirement she returned to work for her friend, Betty Ludwig Fennell at the Ludwig Music Publishing Co. in Cleveland, retiring in 2002.

Donnie was very proud of her Croatian heritage and was a member of the CRFU-235 Croatian Lodge of Collinwood more than 60 years.  She had many hobbies, her favorite was growing flowers, she had a large collection of cookbooks, Royal Albert, Doulton & Irish Belesk which she shared with family and friends.

She and husband, Jack moved to Willowbrook Senior Homes in Saybrook Twp. to be near family and forever friends.  She was a loving wife, Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great-aunt.  She extended her generosity to everyone and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include grandchildren; Amy (Clark) Hayden, Joseph (Valerie) Kover, niece; Catherine (John) Nestic-Tagliarini, nephew; David (Laura) Nestic, niece; Colleen Garrity, daughter-in-law; Mary Lee Kover, great-grandchildren; Reed, Claire, Eleanore, Tessa and many more great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Garrity, a son; John J. Kover, a grandson; Matthew J. Kover, brothers; John & James Nestic, Sr., uncle; Valentine Malner, sister-in-law, Yolanda Nestic, nephews James & Michael Nestic and her mother-in-law, Dorothy Klegg Garrity.

We ask God for his blessing on Danica, to enjoy eternal peace with her husband, Jack.  She was the last member of the James & Anna Nestic family.

No services will be held.  Burial in Oakdale Cemetery.  Memorial contributions suggested to St. Mary’s Church, 15519 Holmes Ave., Cleveland, OH  44110.
