Frederick M. “Fred” Burtt, age 89, Williamsfield Twp., died Tuesday morning at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Warren after being admitted on Monday. Fred was a non-covid patient.
He was born September 8, 1931 in Andover, the son of Walter M. & Mae Belle (Coy) Burtt and has been an area resident all of his life. Fred was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp and the Baker Company 9th Marines serving from 1950-53 during the Korean Conflict. Fred married Ida R. Bland on June 21, 1958 in Flemington, WV.
Fred worked more than 24 years at Stone Container, retiring in 1996. He also worked for Buffalo Molded Plastics in Andover from 1958-67 and was a truck driver for Stop N’ Shop from 1967-72. Fred and Ida were long time members of the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene. He also was a member of the Laker Ruritan Club for 23 years, serving on the board of directors for 10 years and served as chaplain for 10 years.
Survivors include his daughters, Cindy L. (Jim) Morford of Williamsfield Twp. & Christy M. (Chet, Jr.) Paul of Andover; three grandchildren, Hilary Morford, Chad (Kim) Paul & Cody (Lisa) Paul; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Lee) Daubenspeck of Jefferson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay & Alfred Gibson of Bridgeport, WV; several nieces and nephews and special mention of cousin and special best friend, Bob Burnett of Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida in 2006 and siblings, William Burtt, Ray, Billy & Gordon Ball, Joyce Walters, Delores Moore & Ellen Bullis.
Private funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, 55 E. Satin St., Jefferson with Pastor Curtis Cecil officiating. Services will begin with military honors being rendered by the American Legion Neal Post #743 on North Kingsville. Private burial will be in West Williamsfield Cemetery.
A public visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service at the church. Masks are required and please observe social distancing guidelines.
