Jack Baker Obituary

Jack Edward Baker, 96, passed away on July 28, 2022, at University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center.

Jack was born on September 14, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Herman and Helen (Servenack) Baker.

Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, he proudly served his country from 1942-1945 where he was stationed in Guam during World War II.  After being honorable discharged he continued to serve his country by entering the Reserves until his final discharge in 1952.

Jack received his GED from Youngstown College in 1946; he then attended Kent State University where he received a bachelor’s degree.  Jack continued with his higher education by attending Western Reserve University (Case Western Reserve University) where he graduated with his master’s degree.

Jack was a teacher, administrator and coach for thirty-eight years; he spent two years in Trumbull County then the remainder of his career was spent in Indianapolis, Indiana until his retirement.

He was a life member of the Marine Corps League- Private Henry Kalinowski, Detachment #782 in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Army Navy Union. Jack was one of three proud founders of the Ashtabula County Young Marines program.

Jack received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 3 stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the National Defense and Unit Commendation Ribbon.

He enjoyed golfing, reading, U.S. History and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his children, Susan (Tony) Pasanen and Mark Baker; his grandchildren, Tony (Jodi) Pasanen and Stephanie (Mike) Miller; his great-grandchildren: Ally, Laney and A.J. Pasanen and Kylie and Sydney Miller.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Doris Antanaccio and Gerda Thomas.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming and Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Burial with military honors following the funeral service at Greenlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marine Corp League of Ashtabula or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
