Joyce Mae (Pierce) Brown was born in Geneva, Ohio on October 3, 1943. She was the daughter of Ancil Pierce and Christine (Freede) Frabotta. She passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022 with her beloved family by her side. Joyce was a 1963 graduate of Geneva High School.
On July 11, 1964, Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Fred Douglas Brown. Together, they have celebrated 57 years of marriage.
She is survived by her loving husband, Doug of Geneva, and two daughters: Tonia (Steve) Varckette of Harpersfield, and Michelle (Greg) Ina of Kent. She is also survived by her four treasured grandchildren: Lindsey (Ricky) Varckette-Mendez of Harpersfield, Amy Varckette of Harpersfield/Seneca Falls, NY, Kevin Ina of Kent, and Benjamin Ina of Kent. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Upon her death, she was reunited with her mother, father, brother Ansel “Skeeter” Pierce, and step-father Fred Frabotta.
Joyce will be most remembered for the unwavering love and loyalty to her family and friends, willingness to help them in any way, and the joy she felt when others showed their love to her. She had a beautiful smile and fun personality. She loved to laugh and was always up for an adventure. She always supported her daughters, and she loved to attend events that all her grandchildren were involved in. She loved to babysit her grandchildren, and they loved all the time and adventures with her. She loved to dance, whether it be line dancing, or winning jitterbug contests.
Over the years, she had been a waitress at Howard Johnsons, cashier at A & P and Golden Dawn, worked in the Geneva schools’ cafeterias, was the accountant/notary for the family businesses, and a wonderful homemaker. She and Doug were a team, working hard to make all their ventures successful. Her greatest joy was being a Wife, Mom, and later a Grandma/Nana.
She was a member of Park Street Christian Church in Geneva were she had served as a deaconess. In the past years, she was a member of the Geneva Hospital Auxiliary, and the “Ravinewood Crafty Critters”.
Joyce will be forever missed on this earth by her family, but they rejoice that she is well and in a better place. To the world, she was one person, but to us, she was the world. At the end of her life, she endured a long, heart-breaking period of mental and physical decline inflicted on her by the dreaded disease of Alzheimer’s. The family would like to thank the kind/loving caregivers at The Lantern of Saybrook, and the remarkable people from Hospice of the Western Reserve.
