Lorena May Rock, age 93, passed comfortably April 27th, while under Hospice care at the Ashtabula County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Kingsville.
She was the daughter of the late Alex and Alice (Beebe) Emery, born on Feb. 17, 1928 in Ashtabula, where she made her home.
In her early years, Lorena had a passion for family, baking & decorating cakes (many of which were wedding cakes), canning, tending to her flowers, doing ceramics and needlepoint; as well as, compiling her various collections. She was a factory worker during the war, performed housekeeping duties, and served as a waitress. She was proud to have been a foster mother to many foster children; and also to orphaned birds and other wild creatures. Lorena’s most treasured role was as a devoted wife to her husband, Charles N Rock Jr. for 50 years, until his death on Feb. 21, 2001.
An avid animal & bird lover, she often fondly reminisced about her loyal dog, Roger, and especially enjoyed the company of her kitties. At her request, the cremated remains of Roger and a favored cat, Harry, will share her final resting place.
She is survived by her 5 children: Charla (Michael) Macken, Lorrie (Bob) Robinson, Linda (Dave) Nixon, Charles “Chip” Rock III, and Christine (Tim) Batanian; her 6 grandchildren: Tom (Deb) Summanen, Grace (Bob) Herlihy, Robin (Josh) Blenman, Sage Verdi, Timmy & Trace Batanian; and 7 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include sister Lavella Boylan and sister-in-law Betty Emery, brother-in-law Punch Craft, and numerous nieces & nephews. She believed in the Christian faith and dear to her included close friends Dick & Beverly Newbold, Barry Rozman & Jeanne Martin and Mark Oliveto.
She was also preceded in death by sisters: Agnes Frye & Jessie Craft, brothers: Archie, baby Lorenzo and David Emery; son-in-law Tom Summanen, and grandson Cade Rock-Verdi.
Warm thanks are given to all, (including staff at Ashtabula County Medical Center, Adoration Hospice of Ohio, and the nursing home), who cared for Lorena. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League or to her family. Her granddaughter, Sage, has organized a GoFundMe platform for the family, https://gofund.me/26fd736a, to help with expenses.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, Inc. Online condolences may be shared at www.fleming-billman.com.
Respecting her wishes, no viewing or memorial services will be observed. Lorena will be interred at Edgewood Cemetery, joining her beloved husband Chuck.
