Ronald Shelton Obituary

Ronald J. Shelton

ASHTABULA – Ronald Jack Shelton, 75, passed away on August 28, 2021, following a brave battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Pontiac, Michigan on December 22, 1945, the son of William and Mary (Smith) Shelton.

Ron very proudly dedicated 22 years of his life to the US Armed Services.  His first three years he served in the US Navy and the last 19 he served in the US Army.  He truly believed there was no greater honor than to protect and serve his country.  He believed many great things came out of his time spent in the service but truly the greatest was that he met the love of his life, Karen Sue Steed, who was a Medic in the Army when they met.  Ron and Karen were married on January 5, 1977 and were blessed with 44 years of marriage.

Following his retirement from the Army he worked for the Howe Military School in Howe, Indiana where he served as the commandant of the lower school for 4 years.  For 18 years following he worked for two of his dearest friends, Alan and Joyci Feldman as their property and project manager until 2005 when he and Karen moved back to Ohio to enjoy their retirement.

Ron had many hobbies and interests; he loved the outdoors and he loved sharing and teaching his passion for the outdoors, especially camping and fishing with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  He loved family cross-country trips with family and friends and in his quiet time he loved to read, especially westerns.  His dedication to his family was his main priority; he was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

He is survived by his wife Karen, his children: Jefferey (Desiree) Shelton, Robert (Amanda) Shelton, Ronald W. Shelton and Kimberly L. Wilkinson; his grandchildren: Savannah, Wyatt, Gabriella, Isabella and the next addition, Angela, who is due this fall; his siblings: Larry Smith, Chris House, Judy Diehl, Barbara Boenzli, Janice Phillips and Mike Bukoski; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and his brothers and sisters-in-law that he loved like they were his own siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Shelton and Mary Caples, his grandson Philip Shelton, and his siblings: Alanzo Smith, Donald Shelton, and Frank Bukoski.
