Russell Westcott Obituary

Our main man, our go-to person, the man we admired most in this world, and our hero, Russell Austin Westcott, age 83, of North Kingsville, Ohio, passed away after a one year valiant battle with cancer on October 11, 2020. Born in Ada, Ohio on January 16, 1937. He was the son of Paul R. and Marvel (Romick) Westcott.

He lived most of his life in the Kingsville area. He graduated from Kingsville High in 1955. He was married to Claudette Slater in 1956, and they enjoyed 64 years together.

Russell retired from Reliance Electric in 1992 after 37 years. While at Reliance he served as Departmental Union Representative and Departmental Safety Committeeman.

After retirement, he did remodeling and light construction work in the area. He also taught line dance locally for 10 years and on Carnival Cruise lines.

An athlete and sportsman, he participated in sports competitions into his 40’s, and he raised, trained and hunted Brittany Spaniel pointers for 20 years.

His hobbies included spending time with family, hunting, and wading the rivers fishing for bass and steelhead trout. He was a self-taught wood-worker, proudly displaying 167 pieces in his home.

One true measure of a man is how tall he stands in the eyes of his grandchildren. Some of his tallest moments with his grandchildren were spent walking through the woods, berry picking, building forts, target shooting, fishing, playing ball, and using his most amazing talent, storytelling.

He was a former member of Ashtabula Moose, Conneaut Moose, Conneaut Eagles and Local 737 International Union of Electrical Workers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Darrell in 1989, and granddaughter Sarah, at birth, in 1981.

Russell is survived by his wife, daughters Diane Westcott and Sharon Westcott, both of Ashtabula, Judy (Bob) Foster and son Larry (Brenda) Westcott both of Montgomery, Texas, one brother, Paul Westcott of Conneaut, two sisters, Nancy Bruckman of Ankeny, Iowa and Linda Hochschild of Sheffield township, eight grandchildren, Don (Ashley Hull) Lagoni, Jr., Michael (Meghan) Lagoni, Maria Westcott, Sabrina Luce, Tia (Andy Oxley) Dascoli, Krista (Will) Dascoli-Taylor, Gene (Misty) Westcott, Tonia Haymond, and eight great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio with burial in Gageville Cemetery.
